John and Lorraine were following a dream
to own a winery and a family business when they took over the
Hallcrest heritage in 1987. Today, both remain intimately involved
in all of the major operations. John handles the business and
oversees the winemaking while Lorraine takes care of the books,
the tasting room, and organizes most on and off site events.
As if running the business didn’t take enough time at
the winery, they also live on site with their three children,
Sean, Jeannine, and Austen. Both are avid soccer players and
fans. |

Giovanni came to Hallcrest during 2000 after
meeting John on the soccer field. Giovanni manages the cellar
and personally handles each bottle of wine more than any other
person in the winery. When not racking or topping barrels, Giovanni
is cleaning up the competition on the soccer field or playing
volleyball on the beach with his family. |

Paul joined the Hallcrest staff on a part
time basis in early 2001 and is now responsible for all of the
in-house laboratory analysis. His attention to detail has everything
to do with consistency and quality. Paul has a BA from U.C.
Berkeley and a Masters from U.C. Davis in Microbiology as well
as twenty-five years of medical lab experience and thirty of
home fermentation. As a home winemaker, Paul has won just about
every award possible in the Santa Cruz area. He can be found
at Hallcrest most Mondays. |

Will earned a Geography degree from Humboldt
State University which in no way led him on a successful venture
working for Siemens Medical Ultrasound and large scale corporate
governance. Having enough of that, this wine aficionado began
what he terms his “crusade of the grape.” Subsequently
his passion for all things considered wines brought him to
Hallcrest Vineyards & the Organic Wine Works with the
self-appointed task of leading our visitors through the world
of wines, encouraging its enjoyment along with sustainable,
positive living.
In parallel (when not out wine tasting) he enjoys gardening,
expanding his culinary expertise, exploring the lands of coastal
California on foot, and immersing himself in all manner of
literature.
Most days, you will find him pouring and chatting about wine
in our tasting room.
